The Power of the Moment

Yesterday I woke up and I felt instant STRESS. I am not sure how this happens, but when I have put myself under undo pressure, I can literally wake up in a panic. I had deadlines looming, emails flooding in, and the pressure felt relentless. I started doing everything FAST and hard   (even brushing my teeth). I was a stress case by the time I got to my car.

Then, I realized I was gripping my steering wheel and feeling tension in my shoulders. I had been up for less than an hour, and stress had its grip on me. That is when I stopped, took 5 big breaths, relaxed my shoulders, and welcomed in my powerful ally: Mindfulness.

Mindfulness may sound like a nice, flowery word, but it truly packs the power to be your secret weapon for finding calm in every area of life (even that work-related stress weighing on your shoulders).

Let’s Do a Mindfulness Exercise

Take that deep breath. Let it really fill your lungs. Now exhale, releasing the tension that's been building up over the day, week, month...

Engage your five senses

  1. Sight: Look around you. Notice the colors, shapes, and textures. Maybe there's a calming view from your window, or perhaps it's the vibrant post-it notes on your desk. Let your eyes rest on something that soothes you.
  1. Sound: Listen to the sounds around you. The hum of the computer, the gentle tick of the clock, or even the distant chatter of colleagues. These sounds anchor you to the present moment.
  1. Touch: Feel the physical sensations. The texture of your chair against your back, the coolness of your keyboard or phone under your fingertips, the warmth of your coffee mug in your hands. These sensations ground you in reality.
  1. Smell: Pay attention to any scents in your environment. Is there the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee or the subtle fragrance of a potted plant on your desk? A quick inhale of your favorite essential oil can also work wonders.
  1. Taste: Take a mindful sip of your water or tea. Savor the flavors as they dance on your taste buds. Even this small act can bring you back to the present moment.

The Power of Mindfulness at Work

By engaging your senses in this way, you create a bridge between the chaos of work and the peace of mindfulness. You remind yourself that, no matter how busy or stressful your day may be, there are moments of beauty and calm to be found if you simply take the time to notice them.

Incorporating mindfulness into your workday isn't about escaping your responsibilities; it's about enhancing your ability to navigate them with grace and resilience. It's about being present and in the moment.

So, the next time you feel the weight of stress bearing down on you at work, remember this: look around you, breathe, and engage your senses.

Mindfulness and Sleep

Mindfulness throughout our day leads perfectly into mindful rest. It can be so easy to bring the stress of work home with us and then lay awake tossing and turning while running over every conversation we had that day. That is why I encourage you to bring this practice of mindfulness into your evening routine.

Acknowledge the Day

My evening routine kicks off with a nod to the day I've just experienced. I take a moment to acknowledge it all – the good, the challenging, the bizarre, and the mundane. It is my simple way of honoring the day's experiences, both pleasant and challenging, before releasing them.

Gratitude Practice

Next, I do my little gratitude exercise. I reflect on the things, both big and small, that I'm thankful for from the day. It can be the good weather, a stranger's friendly smile, a coworker's kind words, or even the taste of my morning coffee. Gratitude is my bridge connecting the day's hustle to the serenity of the night.

Mindful Unwinding

With the day's events acknowledged and a heart full of gratitude, I move on to unwinding my mind. I get into a bit of mindful relaxation—a fancy way of saying I let go of any leftover tension in my body. I do some gentle stretching, focusing on each muscle as it lets go, and then I turn my attention to my breath.

The Power of Letting Go

Now comes the big one: letting go. I remind myself that I've given my all to the day. What's done is done, and what's beyond my control is well...beyond my control. I've learned that it's not weakness but wisdom to acknowledge that some things are beyond my grasp, and letting go is an act of self-compassion.

Mindful Sleep

With a heart full of gratitude and a mind freed from the day's burdens, I tuck myself into bed.

Letting go at the end of the day isn't just about shedding worries; it's about creating space for rejuvenation. It is a gift you give to yourself—a chance to release the past, embrace the present, and prepare for a restful night's sleep. By letting go, you open the door to peaceful dreams and wake up ready to embrace the possibilities of a new day.

A Mindful Reset

“The Brave Enough platform has lifted all of us in our careers, personal lives, style quotients, and job opportunities. It has brought so many of us out of our shells, given us voice, tapped our potential, and given us wings to fly!!” - BE Conference Attendee

Every year after conference I am bombarded with emails, texts, and messages from women about how impactful the Brave Enough Women’s CME Conference was for them. I hear stories about women taking back control of their time, saying no to tasks and people who no longer serve them, establishing healthy boundaries, learning to leave work at work, and so much more. It still brings tears to my eyes to see and hear about these transformations.

This is why this conference exists, and I want to invite YOU to come find your own transformation with us September 25-28, 2025, at the beautiful Omni Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, AZ! Register today!
