Can you believe that in just a few more days, we’ll bid adieu to 2022? Friend, you deserve to pat yourself on the back for all the amazing things you’ve done (and have said ‘no’ to) this year! Indeed, a job well done! Amazing ways to treat yourself in the last few remaining days of the year and let this be the time to relax, focus, and be one with yourself and whatever your heart craves in this season.

You Deserve a Treat

Why not take a moment to look back at the beginning of this year compared to today and see all of the baby steps and progress that you’ve made? I, for one, am certainly proud of you – not because of what you’ve accomplished, but because you’ve grown stronger, braver, and fiercer in setting boundaries that have aided in more autonomy, control, and say so in your work life. The journey to doing certain things will always be different for everyone, and there’s no one-size-fits-all path for it, yet, here you are, thriving! For all the effort, resilience, hard work, sleepless nights, and courage that you’ve given this year, you deserve a treat. Let the remaining days of 2022 be dedicated to you.

Keep Guilt at Bay

There will always be a voice in our head that will push us to feel guilty whenever we choose to indulge and treat ourselves. This voice or feeling is self-guilt tripping, aka your internal critic, or as I like to call her, my internal frenemy. Our minds are so powerful that it creates guilt as a weapon of destruction whenever we are faced with the position of putting our wants, needs, or just ourselves first. Guilt is birthed from anxiety, and I think the smartest way to avoid guilt is to find ways to alleviate its root. If this is something you struggle with, I hope my 3-step anti-self-guilt trip guide can help you.

Here’s how to do it:

Acknowledge the Feelings and Identify the Source

It is important to acknowledge and accept your feelings of guilt. I want you to recognize them and allow yourself to experience them without judgment. Though this might be hard, this is the right thing to do. Allow yourself to process your guilt and consider what caused it.

Also, take a moment to consider where your guilt is coming from. Is it a result of something you did or did not do? Consider whether there is a way to resolve the situation that has caused the guilt or whether it is something you must simply accept and move on from. Try to discuss your feelings with someone you trust and look for ways to practice self-compassion and understanding.

Ponder Consequences, Then Take Action

Consider whether your feelings of guilt are justified. What would happen if you acted or did not act on this feeling? Because the situation is unique, only you can answer this question. You should consider whether the guilt you are experiencing is a result of something you did wrong or is simply an emotional reaction to a situation. If you believe your guilt is justified, you must consider the consequences of acting or not acting on your feelings. Depending on the circumstances, the results could range from a sense of relief to regret and wishing you had acted more proactively. Finally, only you can decide whether your guilt is justified and what you should do about it.

If you believe your guilt is justified, take action to make things right. Let it go and move on if the guilt is not justified. Try to forgive yourself and begin again with a clean slate. It may also be a good time to talk to your family members or your best friends, or if you need further guidance to navigate this situation, my doors are always open to listen to you – you can set up a consult for coaching with me.

Practice Self-Compassion

Self-compassion is the practice of being kind and understanding to oneself when one makes mistakes, suffers, or feels inadequate. It is about recognizing your worth and treating yourself with the same kindness and care as you would to family, a friend, or others. Remember that everyone makes mistakes and that your mistakes do not define you. Take in a few deep breaths and tell yourself that you are strong, capable, and resilient. As I always say, self-criticism should be replaced with self-compassion, and everything will go on smoothly.

10 Ways for a Great Treat

I hope something came to mind when you thought of treating yourself. Whatever it is you want, I want you to reward yourself because someone strong, fearless, and persevering like you, deserves it! Find something that brings you joy and treat yourself to it.

1. Take a Long, Hot Bubble Bath

Let's start the list with a bang! I personally love and look forward to this one! For me, one of the best ways to simply treat myself is to take a long, hot bath using some Epsom salts. Light some candles, pour yourself a glass of wine or your favorite beverage, and put on some soothing music to make the most of it. Stay in the bath for as long as you like, letting all your worries and anxieties drift away. Think of three things to be grateful for that you’ve achieved this year. You are worthy!

2. Buy Yourself a Small Gift

I like to emphasize the word “gift.” If you think you deserve two or more for all the year’s hard work, then go for it! Got something in your shopping cart for too long? Whether it’s a good book, a handbag, a cozy pair of slippers, a candle, a plant, or even a mug, if you think you deserve it, this is the perfect time to reward yourself with some retail therapy.

3. Read a Book in a Cozy Spot

This one is for my practical ladies out there. My living room is one of my favorite things. It’s a cozy spot, especially when there's a fire in the fireplace. During the holiday season, I treat myself to an evening spent curled up on the couch with a favorite book and a cup of tea or hot cocoa. It's an easy way to have an ideal perfect little weekend treat that I always look forward to. Need a new book to dive into? 4. Go for a Leisurely Walk

A leisurely walk is an excellent way to get some exercise while also enjoying your surroundings. Find a place where you can walk safely and comfortably. Play your favorite song or listen to a favorite podcast while looking up at the sky, breathing in some fresh air, and paying attention to the small details in your surroundings. This is the perfect time to practice mindfulness and process your thoughts and feelings. I always consider a long walk not only a good way to improve my health but also my mind, as well. Walking clears up all my negative thoughts and allows me space to welcome only hope and positivity.

5. Cook A Delicious Meal For Yourself

For me, one way to destress and treat myself all boils down to rewarding my palate with my favorite comfort food. I think cooking a delicious meal is a wonderful way to pamper yourself. First off, consider what ingredients you have on hand and what flavors you enjoy. You can look online for recipes, or you can create your own. The kitchen is all yours, after all.

After you've planned your meal, why not go for a little shopping for the ingredients? I don’t know if it is just me, but I find shopping at the grocery store itself therapeutic. Once you begin cooking, take your time and enjoy the process. Play some music, light a candle, and savor the aromas and flavors of the meal you're preparing. At the end of the day, all of the hard work will pay off once we get to satisfy all those cravings and get our tummies full. You could even treat yourself to a favorite dessert, like ice cream.

6. Do Something Fun or Creative

For this one, the options are limitless. Whether you’re up for chill moments or exciting adventures, it is your call. For me, I like to have the thoughts in my mind put onto something; whether I take it down in my journal or just press record on my phone, as long as words keep spilling out, I am all good. Take this time to explore the fun and creative side of you. You could visit a craft store if you’d like to try painting, baking, or even gardening; just do it. Find whatever outlet you need to let that creativity burst out. If you’re up for something fun, I have a treat for you in 2023. You can join me and other amazing women in this Brave Enough Women's 2023 Conference: Mastermind Summit, which will focus on a deeper connection with yourself and dive into other impactful topics that you need so you can thrive in the next year.

7. Go to a Movie by Yourself

Going to the movies alone can be a great way to treat yourself. Not only can you watch the movie of your choice without making any compromises, but you can also enjoy the experience without feeling obligated to talk or entertain anyone else. And the best part? You can also choose your snacks and not have to share them with anyone else (hello, JUMBO popcorn with extra butter, ha!) Sounds good, right?

8. Relax with a Spa Day

Yes, spa days can be a wonderful way to pamper yourself. Well, this is one of the best things and great for a special occasion like this. Who doesn’t love being pampered? This can help you relax and unwind while also recharging and revitalizing your body and mind. Of course, your spa days can include a number of activities that your mind and body truly need. Go for a massage, a facial, yoga, meditation, and/or other activities to help you let go of stress. Spa days can be a great way to unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, rejuvenate, and restore your mind, body, and soul. Definitely what a hard-working person like you truly deserves!

9. Say No To Three Things You Don’t Have Time For

If you want to truly take care of yourself, say NO! Honestly, this is the number one way to practice self-care; to let go of things you “should” do and focus on your own wellbeing. I challenge you to STOP and say no to three things this week. You will be amazed at how much better you will feel.

Then with that available time treat yourself to whatever you think you deserve. A massage, a movie night, a new wardrobe, a weekend getaway - the possibilities are endless. It's time to focus on yourself and reap the fruits of your hard work. You all deserve it and I am rooting for you!

10. Take a Day Off from all the Chaos

If you need a whole day (or two) off from all the chaos and difficult times, try to plan a day that is completely free of obligations and stress. This could include finding a quiet spot in nature to relax, driving to a quiet beach or lake, indulging in a Brave Enough retreat, or simply staying at home and engaging in some quiet activities such as reading, journaling, using a bath bomb in a bubble bath, or practicing at a yoga class or meditation. Whatever it is, make sure it allows you to disconnect from your to-do list and simply relax.

This is the time to focus and reflect on yourself. Maybe use this time to figure out your goals for the coming year. I personally take this time to just focus on myself and embrace the moments of me just being me. No calls from work, no mommy duties, just time to be Sasha once in a while.
