As we navigate through this bustling period, setting boundaries becomes an essential and non-negotiable part of our wellness and avoiding post-holiday stress.

Here are 5 essential boundaries to set for yourself during the holiday festivities:

The first on my list revolves around setting boundaries within my schedule. For me, time management is like drawing a line around your day and creating boundaries to keep things in order. Imagine the holiday season as a wild ride with tons of things to do. To survive, I realized I needed to manage my time wisely. It is not about doing everything; it is about choosing what is most important. I learned that saying no is okay—like telling some commitments, "Sorry, not this time." This helped me avoid that overwhelming feeling and kept my holiday season on track. 

Here are some practical tips that worked for me: I used a planner, like a map for my time. It helped me see where I needed to be and when. I also used a digital calendar because it sends reminders, like a friendly nudge. I set specific times for different activities—shopping, family events, and relaxation. This is me giving each task its time slot. Plus, I learned to say no when needed. If an invitation clashed with my schedule or peace of mind, I politely declined. This way, I stayed true to my time boundaries and had a much more enjoyable holiday season. 

I still vividly remember that one time I had a chaotic holiday season. I was saying yes to everything and running around with everything on my plate overflowing, let me tell you, it was exhausting. Then, I decided to take control. Now, I had time for shopping without feeling rushed, enjoyed family events without stressing, and had moments to relax. Incorporating regular exercise, even if it is just a short walk, became a non-negotiable part of my routine. This is my way of pressing the reset button on my body, making room for all those holiday treats.  When I am out for my walks, I enjoy tuning in to some music or podcasts – it helps me stay in the zone. The digital world is a never-ending rabbit hole and the holidays can be the perfect time to take a step back and breathe. Let's face it, being constantly connected can lead to burnout and can steal the joy from festivities. So, this holiday season, give yourself a digital break.  

Start it off by setting specific times for checking emails or scrolling through social media. This feels like putting a fence around your digital space, making sure it does not take over every moment of your holiday. Engaging in digital-free activities with family and friends can also be one way to put yourself away from the need to be online. Using the holiday break to reduce screen time and enjoy nature or hobbies can also bring a sense of balance.
